PENDLETON – In his weekly talks with Gov. Kate Brown’s office, Umatilla County Board of Commissioners Chairman George Murdock says it looks like the letter from rural county leaders asking for a return to local control during the COVID-19 pandemic remains viable.
“Rumor has it that maybe within a week or two we might hear some news about the fact that they are looking to respond to that letter and turn some things back to the county,” Murdock said.
Previous communications with the governor’s office had not received a response until this one. Murdock said he’s optimistic. “I keep checking, and every time I check I find out that it’s still under consideration,” he said. “It could take a while to wind back all those executive orders.”
