GRANT COUNTY – Many small towns in Eastern Oregon are struggling to keep enough water flowing for their residents.

The City of Mt. Vernon is experiencing high demands on the city’s water system. The city issued a release, stating that If water usage is not decreased voluntarily by Monday, August 16, then a mandatory water restriction will be put in place. Residents can call the City of Mt. Vernon with questions at (541) 932-4688.

Prairie City residents are reminded to restrict any water usage to consumption, sanitary purposes and watering food gardens ONLY. Washing vehicles or filling pools is prohibited for folks on the municipal water system. Prairie City Mayor Jim Hamsher has cancelled three different scheduled interviews since the last week in July; we’ll keep you updated as to when the mayor will be on the show. Folks with questions can call the city hall in Prairie City at (541) 820-3605.

Below is a release issued by Prairie City Public Works Director Chris Camarena:

“The City of Prairie City appreciates our citizens continued efforts in
water conservation. Please note that due to continued demands on our
water system caused by high temperatures, historic drought conditions
and low water table levels we are asking that consumers restrict
outside usage of city municipal water.

This restriction means no outside watering. Municipal water usage
should be used for consumption, gardens growing a food source and
sanitation only. Watering of lawns, washing vehicles or filling pools
and tanks or other non sanitary use are not permitted at this time.

This allows the city to maintain a safe water level in our reservoir for
fire emergencies and sanitary usage. If you have any questions or
concerns please contact the Public Works Director Chris Camarena at
541-620-3100 or City Hall at 541-820-3605.”
