“Due to wind gusts up to 30 miles per hour and extremely dry fuels, this fire is growing rapidly,” ODF Northeast Oregon District Forester Justin Lauer said. “Alongside our partners, ODF is working diligently to suppress the fire as quickly and safely as possible.”

The surrounding area is currently in a red flag warning, meaning weather conditions like strong winds, heat, and low humidity are contributing to extreme fire behavior.
