MT. VERNON – Personnel with the Mt. Vernon Volunteer Fire Department are continuing their giving traditions this year. The department reports that they were able to hand out 43 food baskets in their Elderly Food Basket Program. For decades, the Mt. Vernon Volunteer Fire Department has led the program. Last year, Fire Chief Justin May told KJDY listeners, “We go out of town shopping and we average over the scales about 3,000 pounds of food.”

The department held another rifle raffle in support of the program this year. To donate to future Elderly Food Basket efforts, contact Mt. Vernon City Hall at (541) 932-4688.
