MT. VERNON – In a release from the City of Mt. Vernon, the town is informing residents along Cottonwood Street that it is prohibited for vehicles to be stored on city streets, per Ordinance 4-8-97-3. This also includes trailers or other items.
The release states that city employees have found multiple vehicles and trailers parked on Cottonwood that are an obstruction to motor vehicle traffic. They ask folks to move all vehicles/trailers on to your property.
Mt. Vernon City Council and staff will begin addressing vehicles found to be a hazard or obstruction as defined in the ordinance – “Any vehicle that is parked so that any part of the vehicle extends within the paved portion of the travel lane,” or “within the bicycle lane.” The city says they will remove any vehicles in violation as necessary and permitted.
