Mounties Move into Top 20 of NAIA Learfield Directors’ Cup Winter Standings

LA GRANDE – (Release from Eastern Oregon University) The final NAIA Learfield Directors’ Cup winter standings were released Thursday, March 30 and Eastern Oregon moved up in the rankings from No. 27 to No. 18 after the winter sport seasons.
 
Points are awarded based on each institution’s finish in the NAIA winter championships. For Eastern, those points come from men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s wrestling, and men’s and women’s indoor track and field. In total EOU heads into the spring with 423 points.
 
Eastern had an impressive winter with every sport earning points contributing to EOU’s spot in the standings. Men’s and women’s wrestling led the way accounting for 64.5 points each.
 
Only two teams in the Cascade Collegiate Conference rank ahead of the Mountaineers in the standings. Southern Oregon ranks the highest sitting at No. 12 followed by College of Idaho at No. 15.
 
The LEARFIELD Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. The winter standings began distribution on Thursday, March 30.
