LA GRANDE – (Release from Eastern Oregon University) Eastern Oregon University Women’s Basketball has moved up in the latest NAIA Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Top 25 Poll. Released Wednesday morning, the Mountaineers jumped from No. 20 to No. 16 in the rankings.

Since the last ranking the Mounties are 7-1. In those eight games, their only loss came in a nail biter to No. 10 Lewis-Clark State College. As the Mounties continue to ascend the rankings, the numbers back up Eastern’s claim as one of the top teams in the nation, especially on offense. EOU currently ranks in the top 10 in field goal percentage (tenth), three-point percentage (fifth), and assists per game (sixth). The Mounties also rank fourth in the nation in rebound margin as they have outrebounded teams by 13.2 rebounds per game.

Eastern will take their fresh No. 16 ranking into a weekend slate of games against Corban and Bushnell. The Mounties will take on Corban at 5:30 p.m. on Friday in Salem followed by a 3 p.m. tilt against Bushnell in Eugene.

Poll Methodology

  • The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences, Independents and Unaffiliated Groups.
  • The Top 25 is determined by a points system based on how each voter ranks the best teams. A team receives 30 points for each first-place vote, 29 for second place and so on through the list.
  • The highest and lowest ranking for each team (a non-rating is considered low ratings) is removed and the team’s ranking will be recalculated with an additional point added to each team for every ballot (including discounted ballots) that the team appears on.
  • Teams that receive only one point in the ballot are not considered “receiving votes.”
