LA GRANDE – (Information provided by EOU Athletics) The NAIA has released the first edition of the 2021 Football FirstDown PlayBook Top-25 Poll. In the preseason rankings, the Mountaineers are in the top-25 at No. 18.
Eastern Oregon University finished the modified 2020 season ranked No. 21 in the final NAIA poll after posting a 3-1 record. The Mounties had the same mark in conference play as they tied for first to earn a share of the Frontier Conference crown. The Frontier Conference Title is the first in program history for EOU.
Last week, the Frontier Conference released its preseason coaches’ poll which picked EOU as the favorite to win the conference this year. The Mountaineers racked up three first place votes and totaled 39 points to edge out College of Idaho and Montana Western by three points. The Yotes and the Bulldogs both had 36 points to tie for second.
Out of the Frontier Conference, Eastern Oregon is the highest ranked team at No. 18 followed by College of Idaho at No. 19. Two other teams from the conference are in the receiving votes category in Montana Western and Carroll College.
EOU will look to contend once again in 2021 as the team brings back a multitude of players from the spring season, including Frontier Conference Offensive Player of the Year Kai Quinn and Defensive Player of the Year Chase Van Wyck. Head Coach Tim Camp returns for year No. 14 of leading the Mountaineers as his squad looks forward to playing a full 10-game schedule in 2021.
The Mountaineers kick off the 2021 season on Aug. 27 on the road when they take on Montana Tech in Butte. Kickoff against the Orediggers is set for 5p.m. PT/6 p.m. MT. EOU’s first home game will be Sept. 4 against Montana Western. Game time against the Bulldogs is set for 1 p.m. PT inside Community Stadium.
