LA GRANDE – The Union County Board of Commissioners voted in a regular county commission session Wednesday to lift the camping restrictions on Mt. Emily Recreation Area (MERA). This change in restrictions is effective immediately.

In accordance with Oregon Department of Forestry regulations, campers are advised that campfires, charcoal fires, cooking fires, and warming fires are still prohibited on MERA.  Non-industrial chainsaw use is prohibited between the hours of 12:00 pm and 8:00 pm.  Chainsaw use is allowed at all other times provided there is an axe, shovel, and fire extinguisher available for each operating saw. There is also a one-hour fire watch required.

Recreationists, firewood cutters, hunters, and other forest users can all help by closely adhering to restrictions, operating safely and cautiously, and keeping up-to-date on the latest orders and regulations.
