Motorcyclist injured after fleeing from officers

MILTON-FREEWATER – The Milton-Freewater Police Department reports Mauricio Moreno James, 26, sustained substantial leg injuries after fleeing from officers at a high rate of speed Thursday morning and crashing his motorcycle.

At 2:22 a.m., officers responded to a report of a man with a gun. As officers arrived, the suspect fled and wrecked near South Main and South Columbia Street.

Chief Joe Shurtz said the suspect was transported to Providence St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla. James’ condition is unknown. Shurtz said officers found a firearm at the crash site.

The investigation is ongoing and the chief said charges will follow.
