UMATILLA COUNTY – A motorcyclist had to be airlifted after a collision with a deer Wednesday near Nye on U.S. 395.

Oregon State Police says a Honda motorcycle, driven by a 70-year-old man from British Columbia, was traveling northbound at around 12:45 p.m. when it was unable to avoid a collision with a deer that ran onto the highway. After striking the deer the motorcyclist lost control and drove off the northbound shoulder and crashed.

The motorcyclist sustained serious injuries and was transported to St. Anthony Hospital in Pendleton before being airlifted to another hospital.
