HEPPNER – At its Tuesday meeting the Morrow County Board of Commissioners approved a letter in support of Oregon House Bill 2410 that would allow for a small modular reactor energy facility demonstration project in Umatilla County.

The commissioners were unanimous in their support, with Commissioner Jeff Wenholz saying that even though it’s a Umatilla County project, it’s beneficial to the people of Morrow County.

“I’m very excited that someone else is willing to take on the experiment risk, and they’re close enough that we can, hopefully if it goes well, benefit from it.” said Wenholz.

Rep. Bobby Levy (R-Echo) is a chief sponsor of the bill, Rep. Greg Smith (R-Heppner) is also a sponsor. The bill is currently in the House Committee on Climate, Energy and Environment of which Levy is a vice-chair.
