HEPPNER – A medical incident saw Morrow County Commissioner David Sykes walk out of a Board of Commissioners meeting last week. He was taken by ambulance to Good Shepherd Medical Center in Hermiston and then transferred to Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland, Washington.

Sykes posted on social media that his heart experienced atrial fibrillation, an abnormal heart rhythm characterized by a rapid and irregular heartbeat. He said he had suffered a similar incident earlier and he had been scheduled for an ablation at Kadlec.

An ablation is a minimally invasive procedure. Sykes posted that he is feeling fine and has had no other incidents.

“After the procedure, the doctor told me it was successful and there is a very good chance this would not happen to me again,” Sykes wrote.

He said he’ll take some time off and watch football games until after the holidays. “From there, I plan on being back at my desk in Heppner doing what I love most: serving the good people of Morrow County,” he wrote.
