MALHEUR COUNTY — Officials with the Malheur County Sheriff’s Office are reminding the public that Mormon Crickets will soon be making their appearances on the pavement, especially in southern Malheur County. Anabrus simplex, also known as Mormon Crickets, “…love to sun-bathe on the hot pavement like they’re on summer vacation,” according to MCSO.
While the insects are out on the roadways, the agency issues a word of caution, stating, “These little guys can create slick, hazardous road conditions when they gather in large groups, so be prepared for changing traction.”
Be sure to keep an eye out and reduce your speed in areas with high concentrations of Mormon Crickets.
