Morgan Lake Campground opens today, with trout stocking underway

LA GRANDE – A reminder to Union County residents, or anyone looking to get outdoors this spring, the Morgan Lake Campground officially reopens for the season today, April 22, 2025, and will remain open through October 31. For anglers specifically, ODFW is set to begin trout stocking at the lake this week, with 500 legals to be stocked between now and April 25. A further 1750 legals are also scheduled to be stocked the week of May 26, 2025.
There are no camping fees, though camping is limited to three nights per visitor in order to give everyone a chance to camp at the lake. In addition, La Grande Parks and Recreation would like to remind recreationists that:
- Motorized crafts are not allowed on the lake.
- Fire is restricted to camp and picnic area fire rings.
- All seasonal fire restrictions apply.
- Campers are asked to stop at the registration kiosk and complete a registration form before proceeding to their marked camp site.
For anyone concerned about the drive, the Oregon Department of Transportation completed major work on Morgan Lake Road last April, including road widening, removal of steep banks, guardrail installation, and improved drainage.
