HERMISTON – The South Hermiston Industrial Park has its grand unveiling scheduled for March 4. Hermiston Assistant City Manager Mark Morgan said the support from the Umatilla County Board of Commissioners played a huge role in the successful development of the park.

“The county commissioners have been excellent partners in this process,” he said. “From the beginning they saw the value in helping to stimulate the development of additional small-scale, light-industrial parcels.”

The county’s contribution of $50,000 was essential, Morgan said, in the funding to follow.

“Their initial contribution toward the project really helped to catalyze and stimulate a lot of these other commitments later on,” he said.

Additional funding came from the U.S. Economic Development Agency, the city of Hermiston, and property owners in the vicinity. SHIP is comprised of more than 12 shovel-ready parcels of light industrial property. It is west of Highway 395 near the Walmart Distribution Center. The upgrades included paved roads and water sewer lines to the property and underground power.
