LA GRANDE – The La Grande School District recently applied for a grant through the Emergency Connectivity Fund and received over $500,000 to buy Chromebooks, hotspots, and to provide WIFI on the district buses.
La Grande students have approximately 2200 students. During the COVID pandemic, La Grande School District was able to provide 360 mobile hotspots and 1200 Chromebooks for students to checkout.
With the purchase of 1000 additional Chromebooks and hot spots, the district will be able to expand the checkout program and replace devices that are at the end of life, broken, and failing. For families that do not have hot spots available, the district will be able to provide for them.
“Many students spend time on buses when traveling to and from school and during athletic, clubs, and activities, so the hot spots on buses will engage students in remote learning and complete homework while traveling”, said Casey Hampton, Instructional Technology Manager.
