PENDLETON – More details have come out about a wreck on Cabbage Hill that closed the westbound lanes of Interstate 84 east of Pendleton Thursday.
At 1:49 PM Oregon State Police was advised that a truck and trailer had rolled over and was blocking both of the westbound lanes at mile marker 222. When troopers arrived Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) workers had set up a temporary construction zone in the area.
The driver had minor injuries, but statements made by the 40-year-old Washington man indicated a possible mental health issue. He was transported to St. Anthony’s Hospital in Pendleton by Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation medics.
The roadway was closed for approximately 45 minutes while ODOT moved the crashed vehicle out of the way so that traffic was able to pass by on the shoulder. Approximately two hours after the crash ODOT was able to reopen one of the westbound lanes.
As of Friday morning a road camera on TripCheck.com shows both of the westbound lanes in the area are open, but there is noticeable damage to the guardrail.
