UMATILLA COUNTY – A settlement conference in the murder trial of Alexander Moore, 25, of Irrigon bore fruit recently.

“He ended up pleading guilty,” Umatilla County District Attorney Dan Primus said. “He has a 20-year sentence in the Department of Corrections. Ultimately, (it was) a good outcome.”

The district attorney’s office often uses settlement conferences as a way of determining the strengths of the case against the accused. Primus said his office works closely with the victims of the criminal act during the conference which is overseen by a moderator from outside the area.

Moore was accused of shooting and killing Shane Alan Shippentower, 34, of Pendleton in August 2023. The incident took place on the 400 block of Northwest 15th Street in Pendleton. He died while first responders were attempting to revive him. Moore was arrested two days later and was held at Umatilla County Jail on $1 million bail until he entered his guilty plea.
