MONUMENT, OR – The lack of internet connectivity throughout parts of frontier Oregon are concerning to many. Monument School Superintendent Laura Thomas said it was a huge challenge to deal with when the school switched to distance learning for a period earlier on:
“The lack of internet connectivity is such a challenge. We took our plans and we took our conference calls that we did ,and our hard-copy packets and we just kind of just built upon that. We added more to it and just went for it.”
Elementary teachers recorded lessons on videos that were sent home on flash drives, with appropriate viewing technology. In high school, teachers did conference calls with the students.
