Model A-plus event! Vintage Fords take over Pendleton

PENDLETON – Walking through the historic blocks of downtown Pendleton last week, you may have believed you’d actually stepped back in time as historic Ford Model As flooded the streets.

The Model A Ford Club of America’s National Convention invaded the Round-Up City, hosted by the local Model A enthusiasts group, the Blue Mountain As.

The Model A was Ford’s successor to the iconic Model T and was produced between 1927 and 1932.

“Jack (Remillard) was able to pull that into town, so kudos to Jack and to Pat Beard,” said Steve Chrisman, the city’s economic development director.

Beard, the Pendleton Convention Center manager, said that he and Remillard had worked with the Blue Mountain As for the past couple of years to bring the event to Pendleton. He estimates that 600 to 700 people flocked to Umatilla County for the event, resulting in more than $1 million in direct tourism spending.

Beard said attendees noted Pendleton’s safe, friendly feel, and some even expressed a desire to move to the area.
