JOHN DAY, PRAIRIE CITY & HINES, OR – (Press Release from the Malheur National Forest)

All Malheur National Forest offices will be closed Monday, February 20, 2023, in observance of the Presidents’ Day holiday. Regular business hours will resume on Tuesday, February 21, 2023.

Please plan accordingly for any of your Malheur National Forest needs.

Originally established in 1885 in recognition of President George Washington, the holiday became popularly known as Presidents’ Day in 1971 due to the Uniform Monday Holiday Act. While several states still have individual holidays honoring the birthdays of Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and other figures, Presidents’ Day is now popularly viewed as a day to celebrate all U.S. presidents, past and present.
