CANYON CITY – (Press Release from Grant County Sheriff Todd McKinley)

On the morning of August 22nd, a 1985 Mack dump truck operated by Timothy Hueckman, 66 of John Day, was involved in an accident on Adams Road in Canyon City.

Hueckman was headed down Adams Road, empty, when the dump box caught an overhead cable that was the CenturyLink line. The dump box power take-off had been left engaged and raised the box as the truck was operated down the roadway.

When the dump box caught the cable, it broke an attached power pole at a nearby home, and snapped the cable into multiple pieces, and ultimately flipped the truck over onto the driver side.

The truck came to an abrupt stop, blocking the westbound lane of the roadway.

Hueckman suffered minor injuries but required no medical attention.

Adams Road between Us 395 and West Bench was closed to through traffic for three hours by County Road staff.

Oregon Trail Electric crews and CenturyLink crews are working at restoring services to the affected areas.
