LA GRANDE – Two commercial motor vehicles were involved in a crash that shut down Interstate 84 westbound between La Grande and Pendleton early this morning. Oregon State Police reports the driver of one Freightliner and the passenger of the other suffered minor injuries but refused medical transport from the scene.
OSP says the crash occurred when a 2021 Freightliner was traveling westbound near milepost 229 in the B lane. A 2016 Freightliner traveling in the same direction in the A lane crossed the center line divider and collided with the other commercial vehicle.
The driver who crossed into the B lane crashed through the guard rail on the north side, rolled down the embankment, and came to rest on its top. The other commercial motor vehicle came to rest on the right shoulder. The driver of the CMV that rolled and the passenger of the other CMV were both injured and refused medical transport.
A citation was issued to Sukhdeep Singh, 25, of Auburn, Washington who was driving a rig owned by Southern Refrigerated Transport, Inc. The other driver was Daniel Monroe Rolen, 40, of Florida and his passenger was also from Florida. His rig is owned by Covenant Transport LLC.
Both vehicles were towed from the scene and the Oregon Department of Transportation managed to open one lane for travel about 30 minutes after the crash forced the highway closure.
