MILTON-FREEWATER – The Milton-Freewater City Council has offered Chad Morris of Niceville, Florida, the opportunity to become the next city manager. His first day won’t be set until a contract is accepted by both parties. The council plans to approve this contract at their April 8 meeting.
Morris has requested a 30-day transition from his current position. He has the responsibility of deputy city manager, director of purchasing, director of information systems, and project manager of special projects there. Morris started with the city of Niceville, with a population of 15,772, in 2001.
The position in Milton-Freewater became open after Linda Hall retired. City Recorder Leanne Steadman is serving as interim city manager.
The city hired Prothman, a professional recruiting agency in Issaquah, Washington, to recruit candidates. Morris was one of the top four which included Stanfield City Manager Ben Burgener; Irrigon City Manager Aaron Palmquist; and former city of Union administrator Sandra Patterson.
Patterson withdrew her name for consideration on Monday morning, the day of the meet and greet at the Milton-Freewater Community Building, according to Steadman. No other details were given.
