Milton-Freewater man arrested after report of gunfire

MILTON-FREEWATER –Milton-Freewater police responded to a report of a gunshot Thursday, leading to the arrest of an 83-year-old man.

Police responded to a report of a glass screen door that had seemingly been shattered by gunfire. When officers arrived, they observed several holes in the door that appeared to have been caused by a firearm discharged from inside the residence. Officers also discovered a bullet at the entrance.

When police entered the residence they encountered Perry Jones with several handguns in close proximity to himself, that officers believed to be responsible for the damage to the door. Following an interview with Jones he was arrested and charged with felony unlawful use of a firearm and misdemeanor reckless endangerment. Multiple firearms in the residence were confiscated and logged as evidence.

Police also collaborated with a local counseling service to provide additional support.

At the time of this publication Jones was no longer listed in the Umatilla County jail roster.
