UMATILLA COUNTY โ The Pacific Northwest Seismic Network reports a magnitude 2.0 earthquake that happened near Umatilla late Tuesday morning.
Initially reported as an earthquake, PNSN later reported the event was reviewed by a seismologist and that it was likely due to a probable explosion. PNSN didnโt provide any further details.
According to the PNSN, it happened at 11:30 a.m. at Highway 395 and 730, just over 23 miles southwest from Kennewick. The depth was two tenths of mile.
To monitor earthquake and volcanic activity across the Pacific Northwest, the University of Washington and the University of Oregon cooperatively operate the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network (PNSN). The PNSN is sponsored by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the U.S. Department of Energy, the State of Washington, and the State of Oregon.
