MESA – Deputies from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office arrested the city of Mesa’s treasurer Wednesday for allegedly misusing government funds for personal items.

Charmain Halverson, 50, of Lind has been under investigation for theft, injury to public record, misappropriation by treasurer, and official misconduct, all under the misuse of her purchasing privileges during her tenure as treasurer of Mesa, Washington.

Undersheriff Monty Huber said Halverson is accused of accumulating nearly $10,000 in unauthorized purchases by misusing government funds for personal items, including new tires for her personal vehicle.

Huber said this is the second city of Mesa employee arrested on theft related charges from citizens of that community in the last three years.
