LA GRANDE – The Board of Commissioners, Wednesday morning (August 18, 2021) and re-evaluated the Mount Emily Recreation Areas (MERA) current closure with many concerns from the public. Commissioners decided to keep the restrictions as they are, which opens up approved roads for vehicles, and keep all unapproved roads closed. Camping will remain closed. All other restrictions still will be in place under the guidelines of the Oregon Department of Forestry. Even though cooler temperatures have arrived, ODF says it is extremely dry. The Commissioners will evaluate the MERA closure during their next regular meeting.
