PENDLETON – Plans are being formulated that city and area officials hope will address the persistent threat of flooding to the homes on lower McKay Creek in Pendleton. City Manager Robb Corbett said the primary concern of the committee addressing the issue believes there are two things that could be done in the immediate future that would address the issue.

One is to straighten the oxbow the creek makes as it runs through Pendleton Community Park. The other is to replace a bridge on Southwest Kirk Avenue.

“The replacement of the bridge and the straightening of the main channel through Community Park provides the community the greatest benefit in flood control,” Corbett said.

He added that officials have early indications that a grant could be available for replacing the bridge.
