UMATILLA COUNTY – Umatilla County Board of Commissioners Chair Cindy Timmons lives in the country. She started looking into where ATVs and UTVs are not allowed to travel for a personal reason and the result is a meeting set for later this month.

“I’d like to get in my side-by-side and take a county road one mile up to the cemetery to visit my parents,” she said. “I can’t do it. It’s illegal.”

She thinks times have changed since rules regarding the vehicles were established. Timmons said when she spoke with the U.S. Forest Service, she found agreement. They told her that the last time they looked at using forest service roads for ATVs and UTVs was in 2008.

Representatives from the Forest Service, the Umatilla County Road Department, the Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office and others will be on hand at the meeting to answer questions and listen to suggestions. The meeting will be on Tuesday, April 29 at 6 p.m. at the Pendleton Convention Center. Timmons urges the public to attend.
