MCSO releases info about shots fired incident

MORROW COUNTY – The Morrow County Sheriff’s Office is releasing information regarding an arrest on May 5 due to an incident on May 1.

Jose Carlos Gonzalez, 37, of Boardman is facing felony charges after he attempted to stop a woman while she was driving on Highway 730 and allegedly fired shots at a friend who had arrived to assist her. (The friend was not hit.)

The sheriff’s office reported that Gonzalez then attempted to force the female into his car. She resisted and he fled the scene. Law enforcement said the incident stemmed from a domestic dispute between Gonzalez and the woman.

The shots were fired in the west parking lot of the Irrigon Shell Station.

Gonzalez is charged with second-degree kidnapping, unlawful use of a weapon, two counts of reckless endangering, menacing, harassment, and first-degree attempted assault. His bail is set at $75,000.

The sheriff’s office issued thanks to witnesses and other citizens who came forward with information on the case as well as to the Oregon State Police and Boardman and Umatilla police departments for their support in the investigation.
