MT. VERNON – Thursday afternoon, the McClellan Wildfire was reported following lightning activity about 4.7 miles southwest of Mt. Vernon. Originally estimated at 20 acres, the size of the fire has been reduced to 10 acres. Firefighters were able to achieve containment a few minutes before 8 p.m. It was burning in grass, juniper and sagebrush. The Mt. Vernon Rural Fire Department, John Day Fire Department, and Oregon Department of Forestry responded.
Also, another small wildfire was reported yesterday into John Day Interagency Dispatch Center. The Rosebud Fire was called in around 4:52 p.m. An immediate location was not listed on wildcad.net. The fire was last updated at 1 acre, burning in grass and timber. Resources are on scene and we’ll provide updates once more is released.
