The administrators of the Charissa Lee Palmer Scholarship are proud to announce its very first recipients: Mayley Saul of Dayville High School and adult learner Destiny Burril.
The Charissa Lee Palmer Scholarship was established to honor the legacy of a remarkable individual who defied the “traditional student” mold. Charissa Palmer’s life was defined by an unwavering commitment to lifelong learning, a deep dedication to serving others, and a passion for giving back to her community.
Unlike conventional financial aid, this unique scholarship is open to individuals of any age. Its core mission is to support non-traditional students and adult learners—especially those who might not typically qualify for standard scholarships or financial aid, or those returning to school or entering college for the first time.
Furthermore, the scholarship offers distinct flexibility: funds can be used for practical tools vital to a student’s success that traditional financial aid rarely covers. This includes everything from specialized trade school gear like boots, gloves, and equipment, to essential technology like laptops and printers for adults returning to the classroom.
This year’s outstanding recipients perfectly embody Charissa’s spirit of determination and service:
• Mayley Saul, a graduating senior from Dayville High School. Mayley is taking her first steps toward a career dedicated to nurturing the next generation by pursuing a degree in early childhood education.
• Destiny Burril, an inspiring adult learner. Destiny is balancing life’s responsibilities to forge a new path, working diligently toward her goal of becoming a Registered Nurse.
“Charissa believed that education and self-improvement have no expiration date and no single ‘right’ path,” said Shawna Clark. “We created this scholarship to clear the practical hurdles that stand between determined individuals and their dreams. We are incredibly proud to support Mayley and Destiny as they embark on these vital careers in education and healthcare.”
