ISLAND CITY — The new year is already providing cheer for local food banks.

In a heartwarming display of generosity, a trucking company out of Idaho hauled in a truck load of potatoes for the Northeast Oregon Regional Food Bank, which is run by Community Connection of Northeast Oregon.

7,747lbs of potatoes were donated by Rogel Trucking in Caldwell, and will be distributed throughout food pantries in Union, Baker, Grant, and Wallowa Counties

“We’re extremely grateful for the donation, as we can’t always get potatoes from the Oregon Food Bank, and we like to offer potatoes to our pantries every time they come to our dock,” said Audrey Smith, Regional Food Bank Manager for the Northeast Oregon Regional Food Bank. “This substantial contribution is set to make a meaningful difference in the lives of local residents.”

Elkhorn Media Group has attempted to contact Rogel Trucking for comment on its donation.
