WALLA WALLA – Walla Walla Public Schools said the Department of Health did release relaxed masking guidelines for fully vaccinated people, but DOH has also made it clear that the guidance does not apply to schools in the state.

“Walla Walla Public Schools officials have fielded calls and emails from parents, students, and stakeholders seeking clarification,” it states in the district’s weekly report. “DOH affirms this guidance does not apply to schools in Washington state.”

That means that all students, school personnel, volunteers, and visitors must wear at least a cloth face covering or an acceptable alternative when indoors. Masks must also be worn outdoors when six-feet distancing cannot be maintained.

DOH said that schools must finish the current school year abiding by the mask requirement. It is possible the requirements will be amended as DOH expects to periodically update the school guidance regulations.
