Mark Witty gives highlights of board meeting, bids farewell to his role as Superintendent

BAKER CITY – Baker School District Superintendent Mark Witty spoke with Elkhorn Media Group briefly to discuss last weeks Baker School Board highlights.

EMG:  Thank you for joining me, Mr. Witty. Let’s talk about some highlights from the June 16 school board meeting.

MW: We opened our June board meeting with a recommendation that the board adopt the 2022-23 budget approved by the budget committee on June 2.

The budget committee met 3 times over the past 2 months to review the budget. They asked questions, provided feedback, and helped us make sure that our financial plan for the coming year would meet the priorities and goals of the district as set by the board, as well as take input from the public on the level of services planned.

We are really grateful for all the time and effort that the budget committee invested in the process, and the school board voted to adopt the budget as recommended.

The school board also elected their Chair and Vice Chair for the upcoming school year. Julie Huntington will take over as Chair of the school board on July 1, and Travis Cook will take over as Vice Chair.

This was my last board meeting as Superintendent of the Baker School District, and it was bittersweet. After 7 years as Superintendent, I will transition to a new part-time role at the beginning of July and Erin Lair will take over as Superintendent.

I look forward to seeing all the good work across the district continue. Our goals are aimed at improving the lives of our students, staff, families, and greater community; and I have been honored to be part of that work.

EMG:  Thank you Mr. Witty for the information and for your many years of hard work as Superintendent of the Baker School District.
