WALLOWA COUNTY – (Information from Building Healthy Families) Maria Weer, Executive Director of Building Healthy Familiea was honored with the Wallowa County Soroptimist International Ruby Award on Tuesday, June 21st for her professional and personal efforts that have made extraordinary differences in the lives of women and girls by giving them the resources to reach their full potential and live their dreams.
Her leadership of BHF is inspiring to both staff and clients. Maria has been with Building Healthy Families for fourteen years where she has had the opportunity to build programs and positive relationships across Eastern Oregon. While Maria is passionate about supporting ALL kids and families, she has specifically been able to build, manage and expand training and educational programs that work to support girls and women in our communities. Examples include Girls on the Run of Eastern Oregon, collaborating with schools and partners to support Girls Circle, serving teen Moms through the Alternative Education Program/Early Head Start and working with Building Healthy Families staff to provide home visits, mentoring, parent education and tangible resources to Moms and their families across our communities.
