March is Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month

BAKER CITY – Every March, New Directions Northwest (NDNW) in Baker County observes Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month. This campaign highlights the many ways in which people with and without disabilities come together to form strong, diverse communities.

NDNW seeks “to raise awareness about the inclusion of people with developmental disabilities in all aspects of community life, as well as awareness of the barriers that people with disabilities still sometimes face in connecting to the communities in which they live.”

According to NDNW, the 2022 theme, World’s Imagined, focuses on how the world is changing as we move through and beyond the pandemic. This year’s theme also encourages exploration of new and ever changing opportunities. It is also noted that for 2022, the social media campaign features the artwork of Calvin Sonny Clark from the studio Art Enables, in Washington, DC (image is available via the web story thumbnail)

The Baker County Community Developmental Disabilities Program offers services for children and adults with Intellectual Disabilities and other qualifying Developmental Disabilities (I/DD) who reside in Baker County. To receive services, you must apply.
