PENDLETON – March roared in like a lion. How it goes out is yet to be determined. However, the National Weather Service predicts that temperatures will be cooler than normal and there will be more precipitation than the average.

“Normal precipitation for March is 1.33 inches,” Hydrologist Marilyn Lohmann said. “We see those low temperatures at the beginning of the month right around 31 degrees, but then they should rise to around 36 degrees by the end of the month.”

Lohmann said that daytime highs in the region start off at about 51 degrees in early March and rise to near 60 degrees by the time March 31 rolls around.

The long-term forecast from April through June calls for seasonal temperatures and near to below normal precipitation as the springtime La Nina gives way to neutral conditions.

“I hate to see that near to below normal precipitation looming out there,” Lohmann said. “Maybe we’ll break that trend.”
