Many vehicle accidents happening in Harney County due to winter weather

Harney County-On January 4, 2023 Oregon State Police respond to two motor vehicle accidents on the same highway, a few miles apart. The accidents happened due to snow covered roads.

Approximately 12:30 pm on January 4, 2023 Oregon State Police were dispatched to a single vehicle non-injury rollover crash on US 20 near milepost 108.5. From the driver’s statements and evidence at the scene it appears that the vehicle was eastbound on US 20, traveling approximately 40 miles per hour on snow covered roads. The vehicle driven by Ada Taylor 20, of Sandy Utah stated the left rear wheel came off the vehicle and lost control. Taylor traveled onto the eastbound gravel shoulder where it lost control and rolled at least one time before coming to uncontrolled rest on its wheels.

A little more than 5 hours later Oregon State Police were dispatched to another single vehicle rollover crash on US 20 at milepost 119. The driver Jan Swesey, 72, states they were traveling westbound on US 20 approximately 40 miles per hour. Shortly after rounding a corner, Swesey lost control of the vehicle and traveled off the north side of the westbound lane. Swesey entered the gravel shoulder where it tripped and rolled at least one time before coming to an uncontrolled rest on its top. Swesey was not injured.

The Oregon State Police are asking that you take extra precaution when driving in the winter weather. Oregon State Police also ask that if you don’t have to leave then don’t.
