BAKER COUNTY – An Idaho man and his vehicle recently ended up in the Powder River when he swerved to avoid hitting a herd of deer.
This happened Monday, August 7th on Highway 86 near Sparta.
Oregon State Police say the driver was heading westbound when he turned a corner and came upon a herd of deer in the middle of the highway.
He swerved to avoid hitting the deer and his SUV went off the embankment and into the Powder River.
Luckily, he walked away unharmed.
State Police says this is a good reminder to always pay attention to wildlife and cattle on roads while driving in eastern Oregon.
