CANYON CITY – A man will spend time in jail and pay a hefty restitution fee on an animal neglect charge.
Brent Harold Batley, 64, was found guilty in Grant County Circuit Court of Animal Neglect in the Second Degree, committed on or about February 22nd of this year. Batley was sentenced to 5 days in jail, placed on Bench Probation for 18 months, and ordered to pay$1,467 in restitution to the Hope 4 Paws organization. The circumstance(s) leading to the charge was not released.
As part of his probation, Batley is prohibited from owning or living with domestic animals, including canines, for a period of five years. He is also ordered to complete 30 hours of community service.
The verdict was entered on July 3rd, 2026.
