Man killed in chain-reaction crash near Mesa

MESA – The Washington State Patrol reports a man from Othello was killed Monday afternoon following a collision involving five vehicles on southbound State Route 17 at milepost 10, three miles north of Mesa.
Troopers said Nicholas L. Abbott, 28, of Othello rear-ended a vehicle stopped for a Washington State Department of Transportation traffic control at 12:42 p.m., causing a chain reaction crash.
A passenger in the vehicle Abbott struck, Jesus Camacho-Augustine, 21, died at the scene. Six others were injured and transported to hospitals in Othello and the Tri-Cities.
The crash is under investigation.
