MILTON-FREEWATER – Milton-Freewater Police Chief Doug Boedigheimer reports that his officers have charged Christopher Spyridon Avlonitis, 48, with first-degree vehicular manslaughter in a crash Thursday afternoon at Northeast Fifth Street and North Columbia Street (Highway 11). Avlonitis is described as an indigent with no hometown given.
The investigation indicates that Avlonitis was chasing after Charles Falconer, 38, of Walla Walla and Milton-Freewater, northbound on North Columbia. Boedigheimer said that near the intersection, Avlonitis’ vehicle struck Falconer’s Honda, forcing it to hit an SUV driven by Yesenia Flores-Diaz, 29, of Milton-Freewater.
A passenger in Falconer’s vehicle was killed in the crash. She is identified as Christy Breeding, 58, of Milton-Freewater. Both Flores-Diaz and Falconer were taken by ambulance to Providence St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla. Boedigheimer said that Falconer is expected to survive his injuries and Flores-Diaz suffered from injuries that did not appear to be life threatening.
Avlonitis was taken into custody. In addition, he faces third-degree assault and reckless endangering and his bail is set at $265,000. MFPD was aided in the still-ongoing investigation by the Oregon State Police traffic reconstruction team and deputies from the Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office.
