BAKER CITY — A man was arrested in Baker City for robbery and other charges on Tuesday, April 7th. Taryn Matthew Niehaus, 19, was arrested in connection to an incident that occurred on March 20th of this year, involving a 16-year-old victim.
According to the arrest affidavit completed by Baker City Police Lieutenant Wayne Chastain, Baker County Library Director Perry Stokes had reported a security camera at the library had captured an incident that occurred the night of March 20th on Baker County Library property. The court document states, “Taryn Niehaus, by apparent means of force and involving slapping and hitting while being armed with a knife, demanded and took [victim’s] white sneakers. During this incident, Taryn displayed the black colored pocketknife and made gestures, threatening to stab [victim]. In the video recording I could hear [victim] pleading, ‘No Taryn, No Taryn.’ [Victim] could be heard saying ‘stop, please, stop.’”
Taryn Niehaus was arrested for Robbery in the Second Degree, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Menacing, and Harassment. He was transported and lodged in the Baker County Jail, where he remained as of Monday afternoon.
