KENNEWICK – A man located semi-conscious on the front porch of a burning home in Kennewick early Friday morning was transported to a Tri-Cities hospital in critical condition and later flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for advanced medical treatment.
Crews from the Kennewick Fire Department responded to reports of a home on fire at 12:40 a.m. Friday on the 200 block of South Quincy Street.
Kennewick police informed firefighter’s that the patient’s girlfriend arrived home to discover the house was on fire with the downstairs occupant standing in the driveway. When she realized that her boyfriend was not outside, she opened the front door and attempted to enter the home to locate her boyfriend, despite being told not to enter the burning home. She found him on the ground just inside the front door and dragged him out of the home onto the front porch.
The second occupant that was home at the time of the fire was awakened by properly operating smoke alarms installed in the basement she lived in. She was able to quickly exit the home without sustaining any injuries.
The fire was brought under control about 20-25 minutes after firefighters arrived. The residence sustained significant damage. KFD Chief Chad Michael said smoke damage throughout the home will prevent occupancy for an extended period of time.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. No firefighters were injured.
