MILTON-FREEWATER – Milton-Freewater police officers finally managed to locate and
arrest Jaime Flores Torres Jr., 29, for eluding police, an outstanding warrant, and
multiple other charges. He was lodged in Umatilla County Jail early Saturday morning.

Police Chief Joe Shurtz says officers attempted to stop a GMC pickup truck Friday
night. The driver stopped the truck and took off running. They located the suspect hiding
under another truck in the area.

Shurtz said the charges stem from the incident Friday as well as two other occasions.
On Sept. 12, he allegedly eluded officers, crashed into a parked car, and fled on foot.
On Oct. 4, he was located, took off on foot and was ultimately lost by police. During a
search of that area, officers located a firearm that was stolen out of La Grande.

The investigation continues into the stolen firearm. Current charges against him include
two felony counts and two misdemeanor counts of attempt to elude. He is also being
held on the felony warrant and misdemeanor charges of reckless driving and hit and run
(property).
