Man dies in single-vehicle crash near John Day

JOHN DAY – Oregon State Police has released preliminary information on a crash that occurred yesterday morning, approximately 4 miles west of John Day.

On September 20th around 4:28 a.m., a Nissan Sentra driven by Nathan Edward LeJeune, 43, was traveling westbound on US HWY 26 near milepost 166.5, left the roadway and traveled onto the loose gravel. The vehicle went into an uncontrolled sideways slide across both lanes, tripped and rolled multiple times, ejecting LeJeune. He sustained fatal injuries from the crash. Passenger Karsen M Vandetta, 18, of John Day received minor injuries.

EMT’s from the Blue Mountain Hospital responded to the crash site. Frontier Towing, of Mt. Vernon, removed the crashed vehicle from the scene. Driskill’s Mortuary removed the deceased driver from the scene. Next of kin notifications have been made. ODOT conducted traffic control during the incident.
