Man dies in Grant County timber felling accident

GRANT COUNTY โ€“ Grant County Sheriff Todd McKinley issued a press release regarding a fatal timber felling incident in remote Grant County. Find the Sheriffโ€™s release below:

 On Tuesday morning the 25th, near 0745 am, the Blue Mt. Hospital Ambulance and the Grant County Sheriffโ€™s Office were called to the scene of a tree felling accident in the Tamarack Road area south east of Pine Creek.

Upon arrival, it was discovered that Garland Weissenfluh, 58, of Mt. Vernon, had been operating a come-along type winch, helping to pull a large dead fir tree that was being cut down.

As the tree fell, Weissenfluh was struck by a portion of the tree top.

Weissenfluh was transported to the Blue Mt. Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Next of kin has been notified.
